Freshman Emily Estrich (Sylvania/Southview) picked up her second win of the spring trip with another dominating performance in the circle. Estrich (3-0) went all seven innings allowing one unearned run on three hits with five strikeouts and two walks.
Junior Michelle Sayre (Ripley, W.Va./Ripley) led off the second inning with a stand up double. After reaching third on a passed ball, Sayre plated the first Marietta run on a clutch single from freshman Sarah Mayo (Proctorville/Chesapeake).
The fourth inning started in similar fashion, with Sayre belting her second double of the morning. Junior Trayla Liles (Tollesboro, Ky./Lewis County) then reached base with a bloop single and stole second a few pitches later. Mayo came through once again with a single right up the middle scoring both Sayre and Liles to put Marietta ahead 3-0.
Lake Forest was able to get on the board in the bottom of the fourth converting on a errant Pioneer throw to first making the score 3-1 after four complete.
Marietta added a run in the sixth. Junior Allison Keller recorded an RBI by driving home Sayre from third with an infield groundout to put Marietta up 4-1.
Sayre finished her hot game one in the seventh doubling for the third time, only this one came with the bases loaded and brought in two more Pioneer runs making the score 6-1.
Sayre led the way offensively for Marietta in game one going 4-for-4 with three doubles, two RBIs and three runs scored. Mayo finished game one 2-for-2 with three RBI in the Pioneer win.
The Pioneers finished with seven total hits and stranded five runners in game one.
The tide changed a bit in game two for Marietta as its timely hitting from the first game vanished. Marietta could not figure out Ram pitcher Hope Zino throughout, as the senior pitcher only allowed three Pioneer hits.
The Pioneers managed only three hits in game two on its way to a 3-0 defeat to Farmingdale State. Freshman Alexis O'Hair took the loss in game two, but did not give up an earned run in the game. O'Hair (1-2) struggled at times, but fought hard allowing only four hits with two strikeouts and three walks.
All of Farmingdale State's runs would come off Pioneer miscues; one off a wild pitch and two off of a pair of errrors.
Junior Katie Swejk (Tallmadge/Tallmadge) went 2-for-2 in the nightcap while junior Marissa McDaniel recorded the other Pioneer hit going 1-for-2.
Marietta stranded six base runners in game two.
The Pioneers will return to action at the Rebel Spring Games on Thursday (Mar. 15) morning. The Pioneers will play Austin (Tx.) at 9 a.m. and Millikin (Ill.) at 11 a.m.
