WESTERVILLE, Ohio — Marietta College softball ended its season with a doubleheader split at Otterbein University Saturday (April 30) afternoon. The Pioneers took game one 8-3 before dropping a 6-5, eight-inning decision in game two. [

The Pioneers finished the year 19-14 overall and 9-9 in the Ohio Athletic Conference standings. The Cardinals concluded their season with a record of 23-15 and were 8-10 in the league.
Sophomore #
Chelsea Chaffin (Wheelersburg/Wheelersburg)# earned her 16th victory in game one after scattering three runs on eight hits over seven innings. The 16 wins ranks fourth on Marietta's single-season list.
Sophomore #Marissa McDaniel# slugged her fifth home run of the spring, a two-run shot, to give Marietta a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. She also moved into second place on the single-season list with her 32nd and 33rd RBI of the spring.
Sophomore #
Katie Swejk (Tallmadge/Tallmadge)# extended Marietta's lead to 3-0 with a RBI bunt single in the second. Sophomore #
Trayla Liles (Tollesboro, Ky./Lewis County)# then added a RBI double and Chaffin a RBI single in the sixth.
Otterbein plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth only for Marietta to respond with a three-run seventh to stretch its lead to 8-2. Sophomore #
Michelle Sayre (Ripley, W.Va./Ripley)# drove in a run with a double, while senior #
Maureen Kertes (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth)# followed with a two-run single. The Cardinals added a run in their final at-bat, but the Pioneers held on for the 8-3 victory.
Swejk led all players by finishing 3-for-4, while McDaniel, Sayre and Chaffin all added a pair of hits in the game.
Marietta also jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning of game two when Kertes hit a two-run single up the middle. Otterbein tied the score at 2-2 in the third.
Sayre added to both her single-season (12) and career home run (20) record with a solo blast in the third. She also picked up her 33rd RBI, which ranks third on the team's single-season list. Otterbein, however, took its first lead of the day by plating two more runs in its half of the frame.
Senior #
Ashley Eberhardt (Massillon/Tuslaw)# doubled home a run for the Pioneers in the fourth and Liles added a RBI single in the fifth to give them a 5-4 advantage. Otterbein rallied to tie the game at 5-5 with a two-out home run in the bottom of the seventh and then sealed the comeback with unearned run in the eighth.
Eberhardt and sophomore #
Kirstie Welch (Pickerington/North)# both had two of Marietta's nine hits in the loss, which went to Chaffin (16-10) after she allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits over the final four innings.
