KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Head Coach
Jeanne Arbuckle's squad bounced back strong after a three-game losing skid by winning two games Tuesday (March 8) afternoon at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla. The Pioneers (3-3) first took down the Thomas More College Saints 3-1 and then upended Greensboro College (N.C.) by the same score in game two. [

Sophomore
Chelsea Chaffin (Wheelersburg/Wheelersburg) shut down the Saints in game one, allowing only one run on four hits with five strikeouts and three walks.
Thomas More (0-3) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first with three straight singles off Chaffin.
Marietta responded in the bottom of the third with two runs to take the lead 2-1. Senior
Hope Cowoski (Perry/Perry) led off the inning with a bunt single and was sacrificed over to second by sophomore
Katie Swejk (Tallmadge/Tallmadge). Sophomore catcher Marissa McDaniel continued swinging the bat well and drove in Cowoski with a RBI single to left field. Sophomore
Michelle Sayre (Ripley, W.Va./Ripley) drew a one out walk, advancing McDaniel to second. Senior
Ashley Eberhardt (Massillon/Tuslaw) then plated McDaniel with a RBI single to center field, giving Marietta the one run lead after three.
Sayre added to the Pioneer lead in the fifth with her second solo blast of the spring, this time to deep left field. Chaffin retired the Saints in the sixth and seventh to give Marietta the 3-1 victory in game one.
Sayre went 2-for-2 with a home run and a single. Eberhardt and McDaniel went 1-for-3 with one RBI each. Cowoski finished game going 1-for-2 with a run scored.
Sayre continued to power the Marietta offense in game two against Greensboro. The sophomore shortstop belted her third home run of the year to dead center, this time with a runner on giving Marietta 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Eberhardt followed with her first home run of the season for back-to-back Pioneer long balls and gave Marietta a 3-0 lead after the first inning.
Greensboro scored an unearned run in the third to cut the lead to 3-1. Chaffin, however, shutdown Greensboro the rest of the way and the Pioneers celebrated another 3-1 victory.
Chaffin (3-1) earned both wins on the day for Marietta. In game two, she pitched all seven innings, allowed one unearned run on eight hits and struck out one.
McDaniel, Sayre, Eberhardt and senior
Cassady Busellato (Hilliard/Hilliard Davidson) all recorded one hit for the Pioneers. Sayre's two-run blast and Eberhardt's solo home run provided all three runs in game two.
Marietta will return to action at 9 a.m. Thursday (March 10) against Bridgewater College and then take on Defiance College at 1 p.m.
