#18 Marietta tops Penn State Behrend for 30th win of the season

MARIETTA, Ohio — The #18 Etta Express stretched its win streak to six games and reached 30 victories for the 33rd time in the last 34 years with an 8-1 victory over visiting non conference foe Penn State Behrend Monday (May 10) evening at Don Schaly Stadium. The win moved the Pioneers' record to 30-9, while the Lions fell to 26-14 on the spring. [Box Score]

Junior right-hander #Casey Levens (Dayton/Centerville)# made his second start and threw six scoreless innings. He allowed just three hits while striking out three without a walk to earn the win and improve to 1-1 on the season.

Senior designated hitter #Chris Beatty (Seven Fields, Pa./Hampton)# got Marietta on the board with a RBI single, scoring junior left fielder #Britt Meador (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne)#, who led off the bottom of the first frame with a single.

The Pioneers extended their lead to 3-0 when Meador and senior catcher #Dan Jones (Lima/Shawnee)# both picked up a RBI in the second inning. Meador singled home freshman right fielder #Jordan Grilliot (Brookville/Northmont)#, while Jones drove in freshman first baseman #Aaron Hopper (Wheelersburg/Wheelersburg)# with a fielder's choice after Hopper reached on an error.

Marietta then plated three more runs in the third. sophomore second baseman #Kirby Becker (South Euclid/St. Ignatius)# doubled home Beatty, who began the frame with a single. Becker crossed the plate on a Hopper RBI single. Grilliot later scored when Meador reached base on an error with two outs.

Meador led off the sixth with a triple and came across to scored on a RBI single from junior center fielder #John Snyder (Altoona, Pa./Altoona)# to give the Etta Express a 7-0 advantage.

The Lions scraped across a run against sophomore reliever #Austin Blaski (Pandora/Gilboa)# in the top of the seventh. Blaski worked the seventh and eighth, allowing one run on two hits while striking out three.

Jones extended his hitting streak to 21 games with a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the eighth. Grilliot came across the plate to cap Marietta's scoring at eigth runs.

Freshman left-hander #Michael Radvansky (Toronto/Toronto) pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to secure the 8-1 Etta Express victory. Starter Ryan Jacobs suffered the loss for Penn State Behrend after giving up one run on two hits in his only inning of action.

Meador and Beatty both collected three hits, while Saunders added two more in the Pioneers' 13-hit attack. Geoff Lang had two of the Lions' five hits in the loss.

The Etta Express closes out its regular season Tuesday (May 11) when it visits Waynesburg (Pa.) University for a single, nine-inning game at 3 p.m. WMOA-AM 1490 will broadcast the game locally and online at http://wmoa1490.com.
