BEXLEY, Ohio — The Marietta College softball team split an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) doubleheader at Capital University Wednesday (Apr. 14) afternoon. The Pioneers took game one with a dramatic 4-2 victory in 12 innings. Capital responded with a 3-2 win in game two. The Pioneers record now stands 15-10 overall and 3-5 in the OAC. Capital is now 19-10 overall and 4-4 in the OAC. [

Freshman
Michelle Sayre (Ripley, W.Va., Ripley) belted a two-run home run in the top of 12th inning, which would end giving Marietta a 4-2 victory in game one. Sayre finished 3-for-6 with two RBI and scored two runs in the win.
Junior
Hope Cowoski (Perry, Perry)i went 3-for-4 in the game one marathon, scoring one run in the win.
Freshman
Chelsea Chaffin (Wheelersburg, Wheelersburg) picked victory. Chaffin (8-5) went all 12 innings, allowing two runs on eight hits with two strikeouts and two walks.
Marietta finished game one scoring four runs on 12 hits while committing no errors. Capital finished with two runs on eight hits and made two errors.
A Crusader run in the bottom of the sixth broke a 2-2 tie, which proved to be enough to give Capital a 3-2 win in the nightcap.
Junior
Amanda Strong (Mineral Wells, W.Va., Parkersburg South) was credited with the loss in game two. Strong (6-5) went six innings giving up three runs on six hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
Juniors
Cassady Busellato (Hilliard, Hilliard Davidson) and
Maureen Kertes (Cape Elizabeth, Maine, Cape Elizabeth) both went 2-for-3 in game two with one run scored. Senior
Katie Woolf (Louisville, Louisville) went 1-for-3 with one RBI in the nightcap.
The Pioneers finished game two with two runs on six hits while committing three errors. The Crusaders finished with three runs on six hits while committing one error.
The Pioneers are back in action on Saturday (Apr. 17) afternoon at Heidelberg University for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
