MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College softball team earned a pair of five-inning victories over visiting The College of Wooster Friday (March 26) afternoon at Marietta Field. The Pioneers won the opener 15-4 and then took the nightcap 9-0 to improve to 10-4 on the season, The Fighting Scots fell to 10-8 on the year. [

The Pioneer bats exploded for a season-high 21 hits over four innings in game one. All nine starters had at least one hit. Sophomore third baseman

Cassady Busellato (Hilliard, Hilliard Davidson) and junior left fielder
Hope Cowoski (Perry, Perry) all finished 3-for-4, while four others collected two hits. Freshman shortstop
Michelle Sayre (Ripley, W.Va., Ripley)e, who drove in a team-high five runs, was one of those with two hits, which included a grand slam.
Junior
Amanda Strong (Mineral Wells, W.Va., Parkersburg South), the reigning OAC Pitcher of the Week, improved to 6-1 with a complete-game victory. Strong scattered four runs on eight hits, walked four and fanned one. Wooster's Jenn Horton suffered the loss to fall to 5-3 on the season.
Marietta jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first inning. The Pioneers added two runs in the second, while the Fighting Scots responded with three runs in the third. Marietta broke the game open with an eight-runs in its half of the third frame. Wooster scored its final run in the fourth, but the game ended with Marietta taking the 15-4, five-inning win.
Marietta out hit Wooster 14-3 and overcame two errors in the night cap. The Pioneers struck for two runs in the first inning. Marietta then added three more runs in the third and four more in the fourth en route to the 9-0 win.
Sayre had a team-best three hits, including her second home run of the day. Freshman second baseman

Maureen Kertes (Cape Elizabeth, Maine, Cape Elizabeth) and senior center fielder
Maggie Daubenmire (Thornville, Lakewood Hebron) all had a pair of hits in the victory.
Freshman
Chelsea Chaffin (Wheelersburg, Wheelersburg) improved to 3-3 with the three-hit shutout. Chaffin walked one and struck out three in the win. Gina Pirolozzi fell to 5-3 after giving up nine runs on 14 hits while walking three and striking out one over four innings.
Marietta is back in action on Saturday (March 27) afternoon when it opens Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play with a doubleheader at Wilmington College. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
