MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College softball split its doubleheader with visiting Ohio Wesleyan University Saturday (March 20) afternoon at Marietta Field. The Pioneers(7-3) took game one 8-1, while the Bishops (7-5) claimed the nightcap 9-7. [

Junior
Amanda Strong (Mineral Wells, W.Va., Parkersburg South) earned the victory for Marietta in the opener. Strong, who improved to 4-1, gave up one run on four hits and struck out three over seven innings.
The Pioneers, who out hit the Bishops 10-4, took control with a six-run third inning. Two more runs in the next inning put Marietta up 8-0 after four. The Bishops only run came on a solo home run in the fifth.
Freshman
Katie Swejk (Tallmadge, Tallmadge) went 1-for-3 with three RBI in the first game. Seniors
Katie Woolf (Louisville, Louisville) and
Maggie Daubenmire (Thornville, Lakewood Hebron) both collected two hits and drove in two runs, while sophomore
Ashley Eberhardt (Massillon, Tuslaw) chipped in with two hits in the victory.
Freshman
Chelsea Chaffin (Wheelersburg, Wheelersburg) started game two and went four innings, allowing three runs on four hits with six strikeouts and five walks. Sophomore
Megan Born (Delta, Pike-Delta-York) took loss after giving up six runs on six hits with one strikeout and one walk over the final three frames. Born fell to 1-1 on the spring.
The Bishops, who posted 10 total hits, scored the first six runs in game two before the Pioneers got on the board with three runs in the fifth to cut their deficit in half. The Bishops added three key insurance runs in the top of the seventh.
Marietta, who finished with 12 hits, rallied for four runs in its final at-bat but ultimately fell 9-7.
Woolf and freshman
Marissa McDaniel (Pickerington, North) both went 3-for-3 in the nightcap. Sophomore
Lisa Stobierski (Euclid, Euclid) was 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Eberhardt finished 1-for-4 with two RBI.
Marietta takes to the road Sunday (March 21) afternoon for a non-conference doubleheader at the University of Rio Grande. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
