MARIETTA, Ohio — Sophomore 
Amanda Strong (Mineral Wells, W.Va., Parkersburg South) threw a five-inning, one-hit shutout in game one and freshman 
Chelsea Chaffin (Wheelersburg, Wheelersburg) threw a three-hit shutout and drove in a pair of runs in game two, as the Marietta College softball team defeated visiting Washington & Jefferson College 8-0 and 2-0 in its home opener Wednesday (March 17) afternoon at Marietta Field. [

Marietta (6-2) out hit Washington & Jefferson (0-2) 5-1, and the Presidents fell victim to six errors in the opener.
The Pioneers plated its first run on a RBI triple from sophomore 
Lisa Stobierski (Euclid, Euclid) in the third. Freshman 
Katie Swejk (Tallmadge, Tallmadge) walked with two outs and scored on Stobierski's triple in the right center gap.
Six Presidents errors led to seven runs for the Pioneers in the fourth. Sophomore right fielder 
Ashley Eberhardt (Massillon, Tuslaw) drove in pinch runner 
Alexis Wyatt (Columbiana, Columbiana) with a double, her second hit of the afternoon. Senior 
Katie Woolf (Louisville, Louisville) added a RBI on a sacrifice fly. Swejk drove in another with a ground out. Freshman 
Michelle Sayre (Ripley, W.Va., Ripley) picked up the final RBI of the game with a bases loaded walk.
Strong improved to 3-1 after allowing a single hit and striking out one in the game, which was shortened by the eight-run rule. Erin Suman took the loss to fall to 0-1. She was charged with eight runs (two earned) on five hits with two walks in four innings.
Chaffin scattered three hits and overcame three walks while striking out five to move to 2-1 in the night cap. Georgia Schumacher (0-1) was handed the loss after allowing two runs on seven hits. She walked two and struck out eight.
Eberhardt set up the first run of the game with a lead off triple in the fourth. Chaffin then delivered a one-out single through the left side to drive in Eberhardt.
Chaffin, who finished 2-for-3, added to the Pioneers' lead with a solo home run to left center field with two outs in the sixth.
Marietta is back in action on Saturday (March 20) afternoon when the Pioneers play host to Ohio Wesleyan University. First pitch of the doubleheader at Marietta Field is slated for 3:30 p.m.
