MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College men's basketball team recorded season highs in field goals (36), three-pointers (13) and three-point percentage (56.5%) in a 91-63 rout of visiting Ohio Northern University Saturday (Feb. 13) afternoon on Senior Day at Ban Johnson Arena. [Box Score]

The win locked up a second straight berth into the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Tournament, which begins Feb 24. Marietta (10-13, 6-10 OAC) will look to possibly improve its seed in the eight-team playoff with a pair of road games to round out the regular season. Ohio Northern (12-11, 10-6 OAC) fell to third place in the league standings.

Freshman Jason Humphrey (Naples, Fla., Barron Collier) led the Pioneers off the bench with a season-high 17 points in only 18 minutes of play. He finished 8-of-9 from the field. Sophomore Trevor Halter (Malvern, Malvern) paced the starting group with 16 points and a career-high eight assists. Freshman guard Jacob Owens (Mansfield, Mansfield) added 14 points and six assists of his own, while sophomore Kevin Knab (Lakewood, Lakewood) recorded his fifth double-double of the year with 11 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

Seniors Daun Lutes (New Matamoras, Frontier) and Matt Kubachka (Shade, Alexander) were recognized before the game and combined for 14 points and eight rebounds in the win.

The Polar Bears were led Ezra Bradshaw with 26 points. Kyle Meyer scored 21 in the loss.

The Pioneers never trailed in Saturday's contest. An opening dunk from Knab and three-pointer from Halter showed the Polar Bears, who escaped with a 67-64 victory in the first meeting of the season, that they were in for another battle. Marietta built its lead to as many as 16 points, 41-25, with 2:46 to play before in the first half and went into the locker room leading 43-20.

Ohio Northern got to within eight points, 48-40, with 15:10 to play in regulation. Head Coach Jon VanderWal called a timeout to settle down his squad. Marietta came out of the timeout and Halter hit another three-pointer. Sophomore Joe Puch (Brunswick/Brunswick) then joined the three-point party to put the Pioneers up 54-40 with 13:08 to play. The hot-shooting Pioneers never looked back en route to the 91-63 victory.

The Pioneers finished the game shooting 60.0% (36-of-60) from the field, including 56.5% (13-of-23) from three. Ohio Northern shot 46.4% (26-of-56) from the field and 28.6% (6-of-21) from beyond the arc. The Pioneers out rebounded the Polar Bears 35-24 and committed only 10 turnovers. Marietta, meanwhile, converted 26 points off 11 Ohio Northern turnovers and outscored the Polar Bear bench 36-8.

Marietta will travel to Otterbein College Wednesday (Feb. 17) night. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
