Marietta Women Rout Ursuline 86-64

PEPPER PIKE, Ohio — A 15-0 run early in the second half helped the Marietta College women's basketball team cruise to an 86-64 victory at Ursuline College Tuesday (Nov. 23) night. [Box Score]

Sophomore #Aleisha Guiler (Lower Salem/Monroe Central)# and junior #Rachel Jones (Dublin/Coffman)# both scored a game-high 19 points, while freshman #Tori Dixon (Londonderry/Vinton County)# had 15 points and senior #Mallory Hoff (Newport/Frontier)# had 14 points. Junior #Lizz Wilson (Ashtabula/Edgewood)# contributed eight points and eight rebounds, while Dixion also dished out a season-best eight assists and sophomore #Kristeva Rowe# added six assists.

Laura Campbell paced the Arrows with 14 points and Natalie Cook had 10 points, while three others finished with nine points in the loss.

The Pioneers (2-1) set the tone for the night by jumping out to a seven point lead, 11-4, just 3:10 into the game. The Arrows (1-6) fought back to take a 19-18 advantage at the midway point of the period. Marietta regained the lead for good on a jumper by Hoff with 9:30 left in the half and took a 39-34 lead into the locker room.

Ursuline scored the first four points of the second half to cut the deficit to one point, 39-38. Marietta, however, scored the next 16 points over three-minute span to take back control 54-38. A 14-1 run during the middle stretch of the final period extended the Pioneer's lead to 27 points, 74-47, with 7:51 to play. Marietta maintained a 20-point cushion the rest of the way.

The Pioneers finished the night shooting 53.4% (31-of-58) from the floor and 43.9%  (6-of-14) from beyond the arc. Marietta out rebounded Ursuline 43-38 and scored 24 points off 17 Arrow turnovers.

Marietta is back in action Saturday (Nov. 27) evening when the Pioneers kickoff the 26th annual Jim Meagle Turkey Shoot with a match-up against Penn State University-Beaver at 6 p.m. The College of Wooster will then battle Washington & Jefferson College at 8 p.m.
