Guiler scores 31 in 63-55 loss at #22 Mount Union

Aleisha Guiler scored a career high against the Purple Raiders
ALLIANCE, Ohio — Marietta College freshman Aleisha Guiler (Lower Salem, Monroe Central) scored a career-high 31 points in a losing effort, as the Pioneers fell 63-55 to #22 Mount Union College in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) women's basketball action Wednesday (Jan. 27) night. [Box Score]

Guiler, who began the week as the OAC third-leading scorer, finished 12-of-14 from the field, 1-of-1 from beyond the arc and 6-of-8 from the free throw line. She added 10 rebounds to collect her 10th double-double of the season while also contributing a team-best four steals before fouling out after 34 minutes of action.

Marietta (3-15, 1-10 OAC) shot 43.1% (22-of-51) from the floor and out rebounded Mount Union 43-28 in the game. The Pioneers, however, hit just 5-of-22 (22.7%) from long range and turned the ball over 30 times, which directly produced 27 Purple Raider points.

Freshman Heather Blair (Upper Arlington, Newark Catholic) was Marietta's second leading scorer. She pitched in with nine points. In addition, freshman Mallory Hoff (New Metamoras, Frontier) ended the night with a game-best 11 rebounds.

Rosa LaMattina paced Mount Union (16-2, 9-2 OAC) with 18 points, while Lauren Forquer had 14 points in the win. The Purple Raiders overcame a night in which they shot just 29.6% (16-of-54) from the field by hitting 25-of-29 (86.2%) from the charity stripe.

Mount Union led wire-to-wire but never by more than 11 points. The Pioneers remained within striking distance through most of the game and trailed by five points, 29-24, at the break. Marietta cut its deficit to one point, 35-34, with 13:20 to play in the game, but Mount Union was able to extend its lead down the stretch and hold off Marietta 63-55.

The Pioneers are back in action on Saturday (Jan. 30) afternoon when they play host to Baldwin-Wallace College. Tip-off at Ban Johnson Arena is slated for 3 p.m.
