MARIETTA, Ohio — Denison University scored three first half goals to beat Marietta College, 3-0, Wednesday (Sept. 23) evening in men's soccer action. The loss drops Marietta to 2-4-1 on the season. Denison improves to 4-1-2 overall.
Henry Gallum opened the scoring for Denison. Gallum found the back of the net in the 12th minute with an assist from Justinn Crowe. The Big Red added two more goals less than a minute apart. Emmett O'Brien scored with an assist from Liam Walsh in the 19th minute. Kade Kist scored 51 second later with an assist from Jackson Schroeder.
Marietta's best scoring opportunity came in the 79th minute when Same Heramb fired a rocket on goal. Big Red keeper Ronan Kiter made a great save to preserve the clean sheet.
Denison outshot the Pioneers 15-6 in the match, including a 7-2 edge in shots on goal. The Big Red also had a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Travis Lutz (Finleyville, Pa./Ringgold) started in goal for the Pioneers and made two saves, while allowing three goals, in 24-plus minutes.
Andrew Stein (Wilmington, N.C./Hoggard) played the remaining 65-plus minutes and had a pair of saves.
Marietta hosts Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday (Sept. 26) at 7:00 p.m.
