Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Mount St. Joseph defeats Men's Soccer 2-1

CINCINNATI, Ohio — The Marietta College men's soccer team lost a non-conference match to Mount St. Joseph University by the score of 2-1 Saturday (Sept. 12) afternoon. The Pioneers move to 2-1-1 on the season. The Lions are 3-0-1 overall.

"Once again we come out flat and the opponent made us pay for it," Marietta head coach Joe Bergin. "We can't keep spotting teams two goals. Particularly against a well coached side like MSJ. We battled like crazy to get back into the game but ultimately it wasn't enough."

After a lengthy delay due to lightning before the match started, Mount St. Joseph quickly grabbed the lead. Brady Diedenhofer scored in the ninth minute off an assist from Brennan Lewis. The Lions extended the lead in the 22nd minute on a goal from Presley Boyle. Diedenhofer assisted on Boyle's goal.

Marietta cut the lead in half in the 28th minute. Eli Swirsky (Solon, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) tallied an unassisted goal making it 2-1. The Pioneers had plenty of chances for an equalizer as Marietta had an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Noah Walker (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional) went the distance in goal for the Pioneers making five saves. Carson Sabers recorded five saves for the Lions.

Marietta returns home to host Kenyon College on Wednesday (Sept. 16) at 7:30 p.m.
