LOUISVILLE, Kentucky — The Marietta College cross country team raced in the Live In Lou meet Saturday (Oct. 3) afternoon at E. P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park. The Pioneer men placed 29th while the women competed as individuals. Every Marietta athlete set a new personal record in the race.
Mercyhurst won the men's 8,000-meter race with 65 team points. Shelton State was second with 137 points, followed by Fairmont State (177), Thomas More (205), Kentucky Running Club (225), Georgetown (273), Midway (283), Campbellsville (308), Asbury (327), Truett-McConnell (336), Hanover (347), Pikeville (353), Franklin (363), Freed-Hardeman (371), Pellissippi State (386), Carson-Newman (403), Kaskaskia (434), Webster (468), Brevard (491), Calhoun (491), Tennessee State (517), Brescia (526), Berea (578), Bob Jones (589), Alice Lloyd (648), Jefferson (665), Bluffton (675), Danville (703), Marietta (739), and Spartanburg Methodist (863).
Fairmont State's Donovan Tanouye won the men's race with a time of 25:21.6.
Kevin Hernandez (Plymouth, Ohio/Willard) was Marietta's top finisher crossing the line in 27:21.1, good for 39th place.
The rest of the Pioneer lineup included
Hunter Uptain (Millersburg, Ohio/West Holmes) (29:59.6),
Ryan Bertolino (Marlton, N.J./Paul VI) (31:07.6),
Cooper Warren (Logan, Ohio/Logan) (33:49.5), and
Jayden Flores (Newark, Ohio) (36:26.9).
Alabama A&M's Laura Avila won the women's 5,000-meter race with a time of 18:20.2.
Audrey Helmick (Berkeley Springs, W.Va./Berkeley Springs) was Marietta's top finisher with a time of 20:16.4, good for 31st place. Alexis wagers (21:40.1) and
Leilani Navarro (Mineral Wells, W.Va./Wood County Christian School) (25:20.2) rounded out the Pioneer lineup.
The Pioneers are back in action at the JennaStrong Fall Classic hosted by Wilmington College on Friday (Oct. 16).
