LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Marietta College men's soccer team lost to Hanover College by the score of 4-0 Sunday (Sept. 7) afternoon in a match played at Transylvania University. The Pioneers fall to 2-2-1 overall, while Hanover improves to 2-1-1 on the season.

"We knew that we'd have tired legs, and it showed in the first 25 minutes. We got down but we're still in the game," Marietta head coach Joe Bergin said. "Full credit to the guys that came in. The games numbers don't tell that story accurately. When they came in the game shifted. We drew a pen in the second half and had a chance to make it 1-1. It didn't work out for us and the emotion went out of the team."

The Panthers jumped on top in the 24th minute on a goal from Cole Hubert with an assist from Omar Dizdar.

Marietta had a chance to level the match just minutes into the second half when Hanover was called for a foul in the box. Harry James (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth) penalty kick was wide right, and the momentum shifted back to the Panthers.

Hanover extended the lead less than three minutes after the missed penalty kick. Patricio Campos notched an unassisted goal in the 51st minute. The Panthers added insurance goals in the 78th minute by Andrew Pavlisko and then in the 90th minute when Hubert scored his second goal of the match.

The Panther defense limited Marietta to just one shot in the match. Hanover fired off 14 shots, including eight on goal.

Marietta returns home to host Mount St. Joseph University on Wednesday (Sept. 10) at 5:00 p.m.
