Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer battles to a draw with Oberlin

MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College women's soccer welcomed in Oberlin College Saturday (Sept. 27) afternoon, and despite applying the most offensive pressure in the matchup, still settled for a 0-0 tie. With the tie the Pioneers fall to 3-3-4.  The Yeowomen moved to 3-4-3.

Marietta got off two quick shot opportunities in the first two minutes, but was not able to score, setting the tone for the remainder of the half.  The Pioneers had another good look in the 13th minute as Katie Heighberger (LaGrange, Ohio/Saint Joseph Academy) sent another shot to higher left portion of the goal, but Yeowomen goalkeeper Roam Redington was able to make the save to keep the game scoreless.   Marietta held Oberlin to one shot attempt in the first half, but that shot went wide left and both teams went into the intermission in a scoreless tie.

Both teams fared no better in the second half.  Delilah Vazquez (Pasadena, Calif./Marshall Fundamental) sent a shot wide in the 54th minute and Tati Grigoryan (Sun Valley, Calif./Crescenta Valley) had a shot in the 61st minute that was stopped by Redington, but the score remained at zero apiece.  Pioneer goalkeeper Francesca Agliolo (San Gabriel, Calif./Mayfield Senior) finally got a stop in the 71st minute as she made an easy save.  Time ran out on both squads and the game finished in a 0-0 draw.

Despite the score, the Pioneers controlled the flow of the match as they outshot Oberlin, 13-3, and had a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal.

Agliolo finished the game tallying two saves for the Pioneers.

The Pioneers will be back in action next Saturday (Oct. 4) when they return home to begin conference play.  Marietta will battle Ohio Northern University, with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m.
