WILMINGTON, Ohio — The Marietta College men's and women's track and field teams competed in the first day of the Ohio Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships Thursday (May 1) at Wilmington College.
The Pioneer women sit in eighth place after the first of two days of competition. The men are tied for ninth place.
Highlighting day one for Marietta was a pair of women.
Emma Fehrman (Newark, Ohio/Licking Valley) set a school record in the preliminary round of the 400-meter dash. Fehrman crossed the line in 57.62 seconds to qualify for Friday's finals. The old MC record was set in 2009 by Sheena Spencer when she ran a time of 57.70 seconds.
Emily Thompson (St. Clairsville, Ohio/St. Clairsville) was the lone Pioneer to earn All-OAC honors with her third-place finish in the pole vault. Thompson cleared 3.48 meters (11' 5") to earn six team points.
Eden Tepe (Oregonia, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) earned four points with a fifth-place finish clearing a height of 3.28 meters (10' 9").
Marietta's other two team points came from
Elizabeth Schnegg (Clarington, Ohio/St. John Central) in the javelin throw. Schnegg recorded a personal record mark of 34.01 meters (111' 7") finishing seventh.
The Pioneer men scored one team point on day one with an eighth-place finish in the 4x800-meter relay.
Franko Rome (Cambridge, Ohio/Buckeye Trail) ran the lead leg, followed by
Max King (Granville, Ohio/Granville),
Matthew Fehrman (Newark, Ohio/Licking Valley), and
Aiden Keener (Orrville, Ohio/Smithville) on the anchor. The Pioneers crossed the line in 8:27.75.
Ohio Northern leads the women's team standings with 90 points, followed by John Carroll (61.25), Mount Union (54.25), Otterbein (34), Baldwin Wallace (22.25), Heidelberg (15), Wilmington (15), Marietta (12), Muskingum (7), and Capital (0.25).
Baldwin Wallace leads the men's standings with 60 points, followed by John Carroll (56), Wilmington (43), Mount Union (41), Otterbein (33), Ohio Northern (30), Capital (5), Heidelberg (3), Marietta (1), and Muskingum (1).
The Championships conclude on Friday (May 2). Events start at 11:00 a.m.
