DELAWARE, Ohio — The Marietta College men's and women's track and field team competed in the annual All-Ohio Championships hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University Saturday (April 12). The Pioneer women finished tenth, while the men were 12th in the team standings.
Sage Landis (Friendly, W.Va./) provided Marietta's lone event win with a victory in the men's pole vault competition. Landis cleared a height of 4.50 meters (14' 9") and claimed the top spot on tiebreaking procedures.
Cael McCutcheon (Point Pleasant, W.Va./Point Pleasant) also cleared 4.50 meters (14' 9") and was third after the tie breakers.
Marietta's other team points came in 4x400-meter relay. Landis ran the lead leg, followed by
Max King (Granville, Ohio/Granville),
Franko Rome (Cambridge, Ohio/Buckeye Trail), and
Luke Price (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg). The Pioneers placed eighth with a time of 3:35.64.
Rome set a pair of personal records in the 800-meter run (2:01.03) and the 1500-meter run (4:13.73). Price set a personal best in the 400-meter hurdles (1:00.04).
Kevin Hernandez (Plymouth, Ohio/Willard) had a new personal record in the 5000-meter run (16:52.04), while
Gunner Fertig (Eleanor, W.Va./) did so in the 110-meter hurdles (16.02 seconds).
Baldwin Wallace claimed the men's team title with 172 points. Otterbein was second with 92.5 points, followed by Ohio Wesleyan (88 points), Denison (84.5), Case Western (63.5), Ohio Northern (62.5), Oberlin (56), Muskingum (39), Wooster (37), Kenyon (29), Capital (23), Marietta (17), Wilmington (9), and Heidelberg (4).
Ohio Northern won the women's team title with 139 points. Ohio Wesleyan was second with 130.5 points, followed by Otterbein (78.5 points), Baldwin Wallace (74), Case Western (67), Denison (58), Oberlin (57), Kenyon (48), Wooster (36.5), Marietta (27.5), Muskingum (22.5), Heidelberg (21), and Capital (7.5).
Emily Thompson (St. Clairsville, Ohio/St. Clairsville) placed second in the pole vault with a height of 3.75 meters (12' 3.5"), while
Eden Tepe (Oregonia, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) was fourth with a height of 3.30 meters (10' 10").
Emma Fehrman (Newark, Ohio/Licking Valley) placed third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.99 seconds.
Michaela Hieronymus (Letart, W.Va./Wahama) was fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:19.91.
The Pioneers turned in a fifth-place performance in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:31.46. Fehrman ran the lead leg, followed by Hieronymus,
Lillian Franchino (Waterford, Ohio/), and Tepe on the anchor leg.
Audrey Helmick (Berkeley Springs, W.Va./Berkeley Springs) set a new personal record in the 5000-meter run with a time of 19:57.38.
The Pioneers are back in action at the Otterbein Twilight Meet this Friday (April 18).
