VIERA, Florida — The Marietta College softball team won a pair of games Saturday (Mar. 9) in the Space Coast Spring Games. The Pioneers defeated Emerson College, 10-6 in eight innings, and Webster University, 4-1.
Marietta improves to 3-0 overall. Emerson falls to 1-2 on the season, while Webster is now 0-4 overall.
The Pioneers scored four runs in the top of the eighth inning against Emerson.
Rachel Kazmirski (Colliers, W.Va./Brooke) delivered an RBI single driving in the winning run.
Katie Sweeney (Alexandria, N.H./Newfound Regional) added a two-run double, and the fourth run scored on a Lion error.
Camryn Kiefer (Massillon, Ohio/Tuslaw) (2-0) got the win working the final 3.0 innings. She allowed one run on three hits and struck out three.
Emilie Johnson (Lucasville, Ohio/Valley) started and threw 2.2 innings giving up three unearned runs on three hits.
Amelia Timko (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) allowed two runs on three hits in 2.1 innings of relief.
Liz White (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton) went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. Kazmirski, Sweeney,
Camryn Campbell (Ontario, Ohio/Lexington), and
Becca Streets (Buckeye Lake, Ohio/Hebron Lakewood) each had two hits in the game.
The Pioneers used a three-run fifth inning rally in the win over Webster. Four straight hits led to the three runs.
Hailey Fordyce (Byesville, Ohio/Meadowbrook) and Kazmirski singled. White doubled to right scoring Fordyce and Sweeney singled to right scoring Kazmirski and White.
Candace Walters (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy) (1-0) got the win in relief of starter
Aiyana Hancock (Marietta, Ohio/Warren Local). Walters pitched 2.1 shutout innings allowing two hits. Hancock worked 4.0 innings and gave up one run on two hits with two walks and five strikeouts. Kiefer worked the final two outs for her first save of the season.
White was 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.
Taylor Airy (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) was 2-for-2 with a triple and run scored.
Marietta plays Wheaton College and Nebraska Wesleyan on Monday (Mar. 10). The Wheaton game is slated for 10:00 a.m. and the Nebraska Wesleyan game at 12:15 p.m.
