Softball opens the season with a 9-0 win over Rivier

VIERA, Florida — The Marietta College softball team opened the 2025 season with a 9-0 win over Rivier University Saturday (Mar. 8) afternoon in the Space Coast Spring Games. The Pioneers are 1-0 on the young season, while Rivier falls to 2-7 overall.

Camryn Kiefer (Massillon, Ohio/Tuslaw) (1-0) was impressive in her collegiate debut allowing just one hit in 4.0 innings to get the win in the circle. She needed just 46 pitches and struck out four Raider hitters without a walk. Amelia Timko (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) gave up two hits in 2.0 innings of relief.

Marietta jumped on top with three runs in the top of the first inning. Emilie Johnson (Lucasville, Ohio/Valley) and Camryn Campbell (Ontario, Ohio/Lexington) each singled. Liz White (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton) drove in Johnson with a single. Campbell and White came around to score on a Rivier error.

White doubled in the third and scored on a double from Adisson Heath (Weston, W.Va./Lewis County). Kiefer plated Heath with a single through the left side of the infield making it 5-0.

In the fourth inning, Johnson led off with a single and moved to third on a single up the middle from Campbell. Rachel Kazmirski (Colliers, W.Va./Brooke) drove in Johnson with a ground out.

Marietta made it 9-0 with three more runs in the sixth. White had an RBI double; Becca Streets (Buckeye Lake, Ohio/Hebron Lakewood) drove in White with a single to left and Taylor Airy (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) plated Streets with a base hit.

The game was stopped after six innings due to the run rule.

White finished 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI and three runs scored. Johnson, Campbell, Streets, and Airy all had two hits in the game.

Marietta plays Emerson College and Webster University Sunday (Mar. 9). First pitch against Emerson is scheduled for 12:15 p.m.
