Track has strong showing at Muskingum Amy Adams Invitational

NEW CONCORD, Ohio — The Marietta College men's and women's track teams competed in the annual Amy Adams Invitational hosted by Muskingum University Saturday (Mar. 29) afternoon. The Pioneer women placed third overall, while the men finished seventh.
 
Walsh won the women's team title with 171 total points. Muskingum was second with 135 points, followed by Marietta    70 points), Franciscan (61), Lake Erie (54), Muskegon Community College (42), Ohio Dominican (36), Capital (12), and Cuyahoga Community College (10).
 
Emma Fehrman (Newark, Ohio/Licking Valley) led the Pioneer women winning two events. Fehrman won her signature event, the triple jump, with a leap of 11.04 meters (36' 2.75"). She also took the top spot in the 200-meter dash crossing the line in a personal record time of 26.41 seconds.
 
Emily Thompson (St. Clairsville, Ohio/St. Clairsville) won the pole vault clearing a height of 3.84 meters (12' 7.25"). Sadie Gray (Whipple, Ohio/) was Marietta's other event winner taking the top spot in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.84 seconds. Gray set a new personal best in the 100m prelims with a time of 12.80 seconds. Gray also earned team points with a sixth-place finish in the 200-meter dash finishing in 27.46 seconds.
 
The rest of the Pioneer pole vault crew earned points as well. Eden Tepe (Oregonia, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) placed fifth with a personal record mark of 3.05 meters (10' 0"), while Emily Randulic (Quaker City, Ohio/Buckeye Trail) was seventh clearing 2.75 meters (9' 0.25").
 
Elizabeth Schnegg (Clarington, Ohio/St. John Central) took second in the javelin throw with a heave of 30.43 meters (99' 10"), while Emily Comiskey (Shirley, N.Y./Longwood) was fifth with a personal best mark of 17.05 meters (55' 11"). Comiskey also set a new personal record in the discus with a throw of 16.77 meters (55' 0").
 
Michaela Hieronymus (Letart, W.Va./Wahama) placed third in the 800-meter dash with a time of 2:22.67. Marietta's other team points came from Lillian Franchino (Waterford, Ohio/) in the long jump where she had a mark of 4.53 meters (14' 10.5").
 
Two other Pioneers set personal records in the meet. Ashley Ward (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) set personal bests in the 100m (16.18 seconds) and 200m (33.72 seconds). Audrey Helmick (Berkeley Springs, W.Va./Berkeley Springs) set a personal record in the 1500-meter run with a time of 5:28.63.
 
Walsh took home the men's team title as well scoring 188.50 points. Muskingum was second with 85.33 points, followed by Lake Erie (75), Capital (60), Muskegon Community College (50), Franciscan (46.33), Marietta (42), and Ohio Dominican (36).
 
Marietta's men were led by the pole vault crew. Cael McCutcheon (Point Pleasant, W.Va./Point Pleasant) placed second in the pole vault with a height of 4.40 meters (14' 5.25"). Gunner Fertig (Eleanor, W.Va./) and Cooper Warren (Logan, Ohio/) both cleared 3.50 meters (11' 5.75"). Fertig finished fifth and Warren was sixth.
 
Luke Price (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) placed second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.76. Franko Rome (Cambridge, Ohio/Buckeye Trail) placed seventh in the 800m with a time of 2:03.64.
 
Marietta's other team points came from the field events. Ryan House (New Concord, Ohio/John Glenn) placed fourth in the javelin with a distance of 42.01 meters (137' 10"). Wade Chuich (Marietta, Ohio/John Glenn) turned in a fifth place showing in the shot put with a mark of 12.75 meters (41' 3"). Matthew Siegler (Hamilton, Ohio/Badin) and Andrew Frannchini both placed seventh in their respective events. Siegler had a mark of 6.09 meters (19' 11.75") in the long jump, while Frannchini set a new personal record in the hammer throw with a mark of 44.02 meters (144' 5").
 
Several other Pioneers set new personal records in the meet. Warren (12.29 seconds) and Siegler (11.25 seconds) did so in the 100m, as did Logan Falls (Parkersburg, W.Va./) (13.03 seconds), Taz Morris (11.99 seconds, and Sulayman Jalloh (Silver Spring, Md./Paint Branch) (13.07 seconds). Falls also set a personal best in the 200m (26.97 seconds).
 
Other runners setting personal records included Kevin Hernandez (Plymouth, Ohio/Willard) (2:19.86) and Brendon Thompson (2:33.06) in the 800m. Hernandez (4:40.77) and Thompson (5:05.63) in the 1500-meter run, and Gunner Fertig (Eleanor, W.Va./) (17.10 seconds) in the 110-meter hurdles.
 
In the field events, Chuich set a personal record in the hammer throw with a mark of 35.85 meters (117' 7"). Frannchini (30.26 meters/99' 3") and Jalloh (19.72 meters/64' 8") in the discus throw, and Price in the long jump (5.27 meters/17' 3.5").
 
Marietta is back in action next Saturday (April 5) at the Marv Frye Invitational hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University.
