ADA, Ohio — The Marietta College men's and women's track and field teams sit in the middle of the pack after the first day of competition at the Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Championships Friday (Feb. 28) afternoon at Ohio Northern University. The Pioneer women are currently in sixth place, while the men are in seventh.
Marietta's pole vaulters led the way on day one.
Emily Thompson (St. Clairsville, Ohio/St. Clairsville) won the women's title with a Marietta College school record performance. Thompson cleared 3.89 meters (12' 9.0") for the victory.
In the men's pole vault,
Sage Landis (Friendly, W.Va./) and
Cael McCutcheon (Point Pleasant, W.Va./Point Pleasant) placed third and fourth, respectively. Landis cleared a height of 4.58 meters (15' 0.25") to earn All-OAC honors and McCutcheon had a mark of 4.53 meters (14' 10.25").
Michaela Hieronymus (Letart, W.Va./Wahama) earned the Pioneer women four team points with a fifth-place finish in the 500-meter dash. Hieronymus crossed the line in 1:20.55, good for a new personal record.
Marietta's other two points came in the women's distance medley relay. The Pioneers placed seventh with a time of 13:53.09.
Audrey Helmick (Berkeley Springs, W.Va./Berkeley Springs) ran the lead leg, followed by
Emily Randulic (Quaker City, Ohio/Buckeye Trail), Hieronymus, and
Annabel Malone (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington North).
Mount Union leads the women's team standings after the first day with 83.33 points. Ohio Northern is second with 65 points, followed by John Carroll (46 points), Wilmington (27), Baldwin Wallace (26.3), Marietta (16), Otterbein (4), Heidelberg (3.3), Capital (1), and Muskingum (1).
The Purple Raiders also sit atop the men's standings with 56 points. Ohio Northern is second with 47.5 points, followed by John Carroll (39 points), Wilmington (38), Baldwin Wallace (33), Otterbein (25.5), Marietta (11), Muskingum (9), Capital (4), and Heidelberg (1).
The Championships wrap up Saturday (Mar. 1) with events starting at 10:00 a.m.
