Muskingum holds off Men's Basketball for 70-65 win

NEW CONCORD, Ohio — Muskingum University held on to defeat Marietta College by the score of 70-65 Wednesday (Feb. 19) evening in Ohio Athletic Conference men's basketball action. The loss drops Marietta to 10-14 overall and 4-13 in the OAC. Muskingum improves to 13-11on the season and 11-6 in the OAC.
 
Muskingum led by 11 points, 66-55, with one minute left in the game. Marietta got a bucket from Frank Waganfeald (Oregon, Ohio/Clay) then a three-pointer from Waganfeald after the Muskies missed a pair of free throws cutting the deficit to six, 66-60, with 38 seconds remaining.
 
Marietta quickly fouled and DJ Fowler sank both free throws pushing the lead back to eight. Jack Main (Winter Garden, Fla./West Orange) drained a three-pointer to make it a five-point game, 68-63, with 16 seconds left on the clock.
 
Once again, the Pioneers fouled and Muskingum's Luken Hill made one of two free throws. De'Ovion Price (River Rouge, Mich./River Rouge) raced up the floor and was fouled in the act of shooting. Price converted both free throws cutting the Muskie lead to four, 69-65, with just seven seconds left in the game.
 
DJ Fowler made one of two free throws for Muskingum and Marietta couldn't get a shot off before the buzzer as the Muskies secured the 70-65 victory.
 
Darius Carden (Ooltewah, Tenn./McMinn Central) led five Pioneers in double figures with 12 points. Jake Singleton (Senecaville, Ohio/Meadowbrook), Jayden Bradshaw (Blanchester, Ohio/Fayetteville-Perry) and Waganfeald each had 11 points, while Main finished with 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
 
Hill and Duane Davis each had 21 points to lead the Muskies. Fowler finished with 11 points.
 
Marietta finishes the season at home this Saturday (Feb. 22) against Baldwin Wallace for Senior Day. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
