Women’s Soccer battles to a tie with Baldwin Wallace

MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College women's soccer team once again put up a great defensive performance, but could not convert on the other side of the field and battled Baldwin Wallace to a scoreless draw, 0-0, on Saturday (Oct. 25) afternoon.  With the tie, the Pioneers move to 4-4-8 overall and 1-1-4 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.  Baldwin Wallace moves to 3-10-3 overall and 2-3-1 in the OAC.

The game got off to a quiet start, but the Pioneers got the first scoring opportunity of the game off the foot of Delilah Vazquez (Pasadena, Calif./Marshall Fundamental).  Her shot in the 10th minute was stopped by Yellow Jacket goalkeeper Kelly Carver, as was shots by Mallory Sullivan (Canal Winchester, Ohio/Canal Winchester) and Macey Orr (Solon, Ohio/Solon) 16 minutes later.  The Pioneer defenders did a great job keeping the Baldwin Wallace scorers at bay as Marietta goalkeeper Francesca Agliolo (San Gabriel, Calif./Mayfield Senior) did not see a shot on goal until the 34th minute.  Although Marietta outshout the Jackets eight to four, the game remained scoreless as both teams went into the intermission.

In the second half, Baldwin Wallace attempted more shots, but could not find the nets.  There was a close call in the 55th minute as BW's Genevieve Smith sent a long range shot that was headed for the top of the goal. Agliolo was able to get a fingertip on the ball and collected the save to thwart the scoring opportunity.  Both teams ran out of time and finished the contest in a 0-0 tie.

Sullivan finished with four shots, Vazquez had three shots in the matchup, and Shelby Carr (Pataskala, Ohio/Liberty Christian Academy) fired off two shot opportunities. .

Aglolio played 90 minutes in goal, facing 13 shots and making six saves in the game.

The Pioneers will next play Wednesday (Oct. 29) as they travel to battle Mount Union.  The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
