Men's Soccer posts a 3-2 win over visiting Muskingum

MARIETTA, Ohio — Marietta College scored less than a minute into the match as the Pioneers defeated Muskingum University by the score of 3-2 Wednesday (Oct. 22) evening in Ohio Athletic Conference men's soccer. Marietta improves to 5-9-2 overall and 2-3 in the OAC. Muskingum falls to 7-9-0 overall and 0-5 in the OAC.

"At this time of the year all that matters is three points. Credit to the boys as we did a lot of things right," Marietta head coach Joe Bergin. "But also credit must go to Muskie. They were good and it was an entertaining game. We have to go to Cleveland on Saturday and face a really good BW team."

Connor Heramb (Willoughby, Ohio/Willoughby South) scored in the first minute of the match to give Marietta the early lead. Dom Porter-Kovacich (Louisville, Ohio/Louisville) dropped a free kick into the middle of the 18-yard box where Heramb was waiting. The Muskie keeper got a hand on Heramb's shot but not enough to keep it out of the net.

Parker Bolin (Albany, Ohio/Alexander), the OAC's leading goal scorer, made it 2-0 in favor of the Pioneers in the 36th minute. Bolin scored with an assist from Alec Ellis (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington). Ellis took the free kick and placed the ball into the box where Bolin headed it into the goal.

Muskingum got on the board in the 52nd minute. Evan Laraba scored with an assist from Landon Daugherty.

Bollin added his second goal of the match in the 66th minute. The senior took a through ball from Petar Mijic-Barisic (Kirtland, Ohio/Kirtland) down the right side of the goal and beat the keeper inside the near post for the goal.

The Muskies refused to go away and cut the Pioneer lead to one when Laraba scored his second goal of the match in the 87th minute. Hunter Keivens picked up the assist.

Noah Walker (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional) went the distance in goal for the Pioneers. He recorded seven saves. Jack Thamann had four saves in net for the Muskies.

Marietta plays at Baldwin Wallace University on Saturday (Oct. 25) at 7:00 p.m.
