BEXLEY, Ohio — Capital University scored three second half goals to beat Marietta College, 4-2, Wednesday (Oct. 15) evening in Ohio Athletic Conference men's soccer action. The loss drops Marietta to 4-9-2 overall and 1-3 in the OAC. Capital improves to 3-7-1 overall and 2-1 in the OAC.
Marietta struck first in the 30th minute.
Gavin Heighberger (Lagrange, Ohio/Elyria) found the back of the net with assists from
Petar Mijic-Barisic (Kirtland, Ohio/Kirtland) and
Brett Dixon (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon). The Comets leveled the match in the 40th minute on a goal from Christian Monzalvo. Jack Thomas picked up the assist.
Less than three minutes into the second half, Marietta was whistled for a foul in the box giving Capital a penalty kick. Derrick Harris converted the penalty for a 2-1 lead. The Comets added two more goals, 36 seconds apart. Harris scored in the 54th minute with an assist from Wassim Metatla. Then Cade Wurstner scored in the 55th minute with an assist from Jackson Terry.
Marietta got within two with an own goal in the 72nd minute. The Comet defense accidental knocked the ball into their own goal giving Marietta its second goal of the match.
Noah Walker (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional) went the distance in goal for the Pioneers making three saves. Ethan Ogden started in goal for Capital and had four saves and allowed one goal in 60-plus minutes. Noah Thomas played the remainder of the match and allowed one goal while making three saves.
Marietta hosts rival Muskingum University next Wednesday (Oct. 22). Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
