NEW CONCORD, Ohio — The Marietta College men's and women's track and field team competed at the Muskie #1 Meet hosted by Muskingum University Saturday (Jan. 18). The Pioneers men finished eighth, while the women placed ninth in the team standings.
Mount Vernon Nazarene won the men's team title with 93 total points. West Virginia Wesleyan was second with 79 points, followed by Glenville State (65 points), West Liberty (63.5), Walsh (63), Denison (56.5), Geneva (36), Marietta (35), Muskingum (33.5), Washington and Jefferson (28.5), and Chatham (7).
The pole vault tandem of
Cael McCutcheon (Point Pleasant, W.Va./Point Pleasant) and
Sage Landis (Friendly, W.Va.) both cleared 4.42 meters (14'6"). McCutcheon took first on tiebreakers, while Landis was second. The height was a new personal record for both athletes.
Charles Putnam (Marietta, Ohio/) turned in a second place showing in the 3,000-meter run with a personal record time of 9:09.35. Andrew Frannchini placed fourth in the weight throw with a personal best mark of 14.47 meters (47'5.75").
Max King (Granville, Ohio/Granville) placed fifth in the 500-meter dash crossing the line in a personal record time of 1:16.10.
Franko Rome (Cambridge, Ohio/Buckeye Trail) finished sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:08.77.
Marietta's 4x400-meter relay team placed fifth with a time of 3:42.29.
Luke Price (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) ran the lead leg, followed by Rome, Landis, and King.
Ursuline won the women's team title with 92 total points. Mount Vernon Nazarene was second with 90 points, followed by Walsh (78.5 points), West Liberty (63), West Virginia Wesleyan (59), Denison (47), Glenville State (44.5), Chatham (38), Marietta (37), Cuyahoga CC (27), Muskingum (21.5), Geneva (20.5), and Washington and Jefferson (1).
Emma Fehrman (Newark, Ohio/Licking Valley) and
Michaela Hieronymus (Letart, W.Va./Wahama) led the Pioneer women. Fehrman placed second in the triple jump and third in the 200-meter dash. Her mark in the triple jump was 10.94 meters (35'10.75") and she posted a time of 27.29 seconds in the 200m. Hieronymus placed second in the 500-meter dash with a personal record time of 1:22.46.
Isabelle Poling (Lancaster, Ohio/Bloom Carroll) finished third in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 11:47.66.
Audrey Helmick (Berkeley Springs, W.Va./Berkeley Springs) and
Annabel Malone (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington North) placed third and fifth, respectively, in the 1,000-meter run. Helmick posted a time of 3:22.58, while Malone crossed in 3:39.17, both personal bests.
The women's final team points came in the pole vault.
Emily Randulic (Quaker City, Ohio/Buckeye Trail) cleared a personal best height of 2.75 meters (9'0.25") to place eighth.
Marietta is back in action at the Youngstown State Mid Major Invitational on Friday and Saturday (Jan. 31-Feb. 1).
