OBERLIN, Ohio – The Marietta College women's soccer team made a stop at Oberlin College and was defeated 3-0 in non-conference action. With the defeat the Pioneers fall to 4-3-2. The Yeowomen improved to 4-4-1.
Both teams took some time to get any rhythm to their offense, attempting a total of five shots in the first 30 minutes. Oberlin finally struck first in the 35th minute as Heather Benway sent a shot past Pioneer goalkeeper
Sarah Legg (Edgewood, Ky./Dixie Heights) to take a 1-0 lead. The Pioneers were not able to answer and trailed by the one goal going into the intermission.
Marietta fared no better in the second half, giving up goals in the 52nd and 70th minutes and was outshot 10-6 in the final 45 minutes. The Yeowoman finished the game with a 3-0 victory.
Legg finished the game facing a total of 15 shots, six of which were on goal, tallying two saves.
The Pioneers will be back in action next Saturday (Oct. 5) when they begin conference play. Marietta will travel to battle Ohio Northern University, with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m.
