MARIETTA, Ohio — Three different Pioneers scored as Marietta College defeated the University of Mount Union by the score of 3-1 Wednesday (Oct. 30) evening in Ohio Athletic Conference women's soccer action. Marietta improves to 7-7-3 overall and 3-4-1 in the OAC. Mount Union falls to 5-11-1 on the season and 1-6-1 in the OAC.
Marietta struck early with a goal just over four minutes into the match.
Taylor Sloan (Belpre, Ohio/Warren) gathered the ball in the box and fired a shot off for her third goal of the season.
The Purple Raiders were awarded a penalty kick in the 32nd minute. Ella Dinwiddie converted the penalty leveling the match, 1-1.
Five minutes later,
Mallory Sullivan (Canal Winchester, Ohio/Canal Winchester) scored the game winner. Sullivan scored off a corner kick from
Ryah Haidar (Sylvania, Ohio/Sylvania Southview) in the 37th minute.
Freshman strike
Shelby Carr (Pataskala, Ohio/Liberty Christian Academy) scored her first career goal in the 76th minute giving the Pioneers some breathing room. Haidar picked up the assist on Carr's goal as well.
Sarah Legg (Edgewood, Ky./Dixie Heights) played the full 90 minutes in goal for the Pioneers recording two saves. Rylee Oldfield had three saves in goal for the Purple Raiders.
Marietta wraps up the regular season at Wilmington on Saturday (Nov. 2). Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
