BEREA, Ohio – The Marietta College women's soccer team had to spend Homecoming on the road and was defeated by Baldwin Wallace, 5-0, on Saturday (Oct. 26) afternoon. With the loss, the Pioneers fall to 6-7-3 overall and 2-4-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Baldwin Wallace improves to 6-10-2 overall and 1-4-2 in the OAC.
The game got off to a quiet start, but the Pioneers took the first shot of the game. Ryah Haider sent a shot towards BW keeper Katie Scott inside the first two minutes of the game, which was promptly saved. Four minutes later, the Yellow Jackets answered as Mia Fourtounis offered a shot that was stopped by Pioneer keeper
Maisee Carrier (Fairview, Pa./Fairview), but that shot caromed to BW's Delaine Zura and she deposited the ball into the net for the game's first score.
The Pioneer had limited scoring opportunities throughout the half as they only attempted two more shots before the end of the period. BW added goals at the 29th and 32nd minute marks and took a 3-0 lead into the intermission.
The Pioneers tried to fight back early in the second half as
Emmah Kronenbitter (Zanesville, Ohio/Zanesville) sent a shot on goal, but it was thwarted which kept the shutout intact. BW again broke through in the 74th and 86th minutes to extend the lead to five. Marietta could not make up the difference and Baldwin Wallace would go on to secure the victory.
Carrier played 78 minutes in goal, she faced 15 shots, 10 of which were on goal, and made six saves in the game.
Haley Dawicke (Newport News, Va./Tabb) fished the contest and faced three shot, two of which were on goal, and made one save.
The Pioneers will next play Wednesday (Oct. 30) as they return home to battle Mount Union. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
