MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's soccer team lost a 2-0 Ohio Athletic Conference match against John Carroll University Saturday (Oct. 19) afternoon. The Pioneers slip to 5-6-3 overall and 1-3-1 in the OAC. John Carroll improves to 9-5-0 overall and 5-0-0 in the OAC.
The Blue Steaks tallied a pair of first half goals to secure the victory. Abby Smith scored the first goal off an assist from Emily Patrzyk in the 16th minute. JCU doubled the lead in the 22nd minute when Meredith Coloian scored off an assist from Madyson Rosado.
Marietta had plenty of scoring opportunities in the match but couldn't beat the Blue Streak defense. The Pioneers outshot John Carroll 20-12, including a 12-8 advantage in shots on goal. Marietta also held a 2-0 advantage in corner kicks
Madeline Martin recorded 12 saves in goal for the Blue Streaks while posting the shutout.
Maisee Carrier (Fairview, Pa./Fairview) went the distance in goal for the Pioneers and made six saves in the match.
Marietta plays at Muskingum on Wednesday (Oct. 23) at 7:00 p.m.
