Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer shut out by Baldwin Wallace in conference opener

BEREA, Ohio – The Marietta College women's soccer team got defeated in their Ohio Athletic Conference opener, losing on the road to Baldwin Wallace, 3-0, on Saturday (Sept. 30) afternoon.  With the loss, Pioneers falls to overall record 3-4 and 0-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.  Baldwin Wallace fell to 5-4-1 overall and 1-0 in the OAC.

"We truly have the best kids in this program," Marietta head coach Zack Votra said. "They made every adjustment we asked for in the second half. Now we need to piece together 90 full minutes."

Baldwin Wallace took little time getting on the board as Ella Barth scored in the 3rd minute, off of a Sydney Rice assist, to take an early 1-0 lead.  The Yellow Jackets scored two more goals in the span of a minute to lead 3-0 with 19 minutes remaining in the period.  Ryah Haidar (Sylvania, Ohio/Sylvania Southview) and Meredith Devine (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek) had shot opportunities but could not get anything past BW keeper Katie Scott.  Marietta's Sarah Legg (Edgewood, Ky./Dixie Heights) made four first half saves but still Baldwin Wallace led 3-0 going into intermission.

The Pioneers saw limited time of possession on the Baldwin Wallace side of the field in the second half. Finally, in the 74th minute, the Pioneers got a bit more active as Lydia Vach (Maineville, Ohio/Little Miami) fired a shot that caromed off of right post, but was not able to find the back of the net.  Angelene Kontul (Solon, Ohio/Solon) attempted another shot one minute later but it would go wide right.  Devine attempted yet another a minute later to but it would go over the net.  Baldwin Wallace would go on to hold on and secure the victory.

Legg played all 90 minutes in goal, she faced 18 shots, nine of which were on goal, and made six saves in the game.

The Pioneers will next play Wednesday (Oct. 4) as they travel to Muskingum University for the final game of a very long road trip.  The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
