GAMBIER, Ohio – The Marietta College women's soccer team dropped a road game to Kenyon College, 3-0 on Saturday (Sept. 23) evening. The Pioneers are now 3-2 on the season, and the Owls improve to 4-1-3 overall.
The first half had Kenyon out shoot Marietta in the first 15 minutes, 6-2, with two of those shots on goal, but the score remained tied at zero. The scoreless tie was broken in the 19th minute when Sadie Gould took a Hailey Moss pass and sent it into the lower right portion of the goal. Kenyon doubled the score in the 32nd minute when Alex Sokolik found the back of the net, giving the Owls a 2-0 lead. Jenna Michel tacked on one more goal and Kenyon took a 3-0 lead into intermission.
Marietta could not muster much of a defense as Kenyon scored minutes into the second half. Eun Killig scored to extend the lead to 4-0. Morgan Baker added a goals in the 54th and the 62nd minute.
Mallory Sullivan (Canal Winchester, Ohio/Canal Winchester) and
Taylor Sloan (Belpre, Ohio/Warren) both provided a shot on goal in the second half but the Pioneers could not slide anything past Kenyon goalkeepers Gabi Pesticci and Lily Lucas. The Pioneers would fall to the Owls, 6-0
Alli Stahl (Batavia, Ohio/West Clermont) played 72 minutes in goal for Marietta, she faced 24 shots, nine of which were on goal, and made two saves.
Sarah Legg (Edgewood, Ky./Dixie Heights) came in for relief and worked the final 18 minutes.
The Pioneers will return to the field Wednesday (Sept. 27) when they travel to battle Carnegie Mellon University. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
