Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer shut out on the road by Wooster

WOOSTER, Ohio – The Marietta College women's soccer team continued their long road trip with a stop at the College of Wooster and was defeated 3-0 in non-conference action. With the defeat the Pioneers fall to 2-2.  The Fighting Scots improved to 6-0-1.

"Not our top performance today," said Head Coach Zack Votra.  "We can make any excuse we'd like, but at the end of the day we're more capable than what today's result showed. This is a resilient group and I have no doubts this will be motivation for a quick bounce back on Saturday!"

Both teams took some time to get any rhythm to their offense as eight minutes elapsed before Wooster fired the first shot of the contest.  The Pioneers were outshot 11-4 in the first 45 minutes but, in turn, kept the Scots off of the board.  One highlight from the Pioneers' first half was the performance of goalkeeper Alli Stahl (Batavia, Ohio/West Clermont).  In her first start of the season, she had five opening period saves.  Both teams took a scoreless tie into the intermission.

Wooster came out aggressive in the second half firing off two quick shots, but still no goals scored.  In the 51st minute, though, the Fighting Scots were awarded a penalty kick when Marietta's Izzy Hank (North Olmsted, Ohio/Holy Name) fouled Naomi Mann in the scoring box.  Mann got Stahl going one direction while kicking the ball in the other end of the net, giving Wooster a 1-0 lead. Mann scored another goal in the 75th minute and Lizzy Glaza added some insurance six minutes later with a goal, assisted by Mann. The Pioneers could not overcome the gap and the Fighting Scots finished the game with a 3-0 victory.

The Pioneers tallied seven total shots with only one of them on goal.  Stahl finished the game facing a total of 22 shots, 13 of which were on goal, tallying 10 total saves.

The Pioneers will be back in action Saturday (Sept. 16) when they continue their extended road trip to battle Geneva, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
