MARIETTA, Ohio — Marietta College head women's rowing coach
Abby Lord resigned her position at the end of May. Lord served as the Pioneers' head coach for the last five seasons.
"At this time, I have decided to step away from coaching so that I can devote more time to my family and other commitments. I count it a true privilege to have been the head coach of Marietta College women's rowing the past five years," Lord said. "I am thankful to have had the support of our administration and our alumni. I firmly believe that this support, along with the commitment and efforts of our current athletes, the women's rowing team is positioned well for future growth and success."
Marietta closed out the 2023 season with a varsity 8+ bronze medal at the Dad Vail Regatta. The Pioneers also claimed the bronze medal in 2022 and silver in 2021. In addition to the Dad Vail medals, Marietta's varsity 8+ won a bronze medal in 2022 and a silver medal in 2021 at the Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference Championships.
"We thank Abby for her character, leadership and determination in rebuilding our women's rowing program," Marietta director of athletics Larry Hiser said. "The team consistently exhibited grit and competitiveness with strong finishes at the MARC and Dad Vail Regatta over the last two years."
Lord returned to her alma mater after three years on the women's rowing coaching staff at Bucknell University, an NCAA Division I member of the Patriot League. Lord started as the recruiting coordinator for the Bison before becoming the head novice coach and then Bucknell's top assistant.
A four-year varsity oarswoman for the Pioneers, Lord was a two-time All-MARC rower and three-time CRCA National Scholar-Athlete. She helped the Navy Blue & White to a pair of Dad Vail Division II/Division III varsity 8+ gold medals and back-to-back NCAA Division III Championship appearances in 2011 and 2012.
A national search to find the College's next head women's rowing coach will begin immediately.
