WESTERVILLE, Ohio — Otterbein University defeated Marietta College by the score of 9-0 Friday (April 7) in Ohio Athletic Conference women's tennis. The loss drops the Pioneers to 2-9 on the season and 1-4 in the OAC. Otterbein improves to 10-5 overall and 4-0 in the OAC.
The Cardinals jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with a sweep of the doubles matches. At No. 1, Erin Storrer and Olivia Eckels edged
Ryah Haidar (Sylvania, Ohio/Sylvania Southview) and
Isabela Paixao (McKees Rocks, Pa./Montour), 8-3. Abigail Hartshorn and
Parkar Mauk (Marion, Ohio/Marion Harding) lost to Lillia Walter and Aubrey McMahon at No. 2, 8-1, and Julia Gillin and Rachelle Moses blanked
India Flores (Waverly, W.Va./Williamstown) and
Elizabeth Vigue (Lancaster, Ohio/Fisher Catholic) at No. 3, 8-0.
In the No. 1 singles match, Storrer and Paixao went three sets. Paixao won the first set, 7-5. Storrer took the second set, 6-4, and then won the match with a 6-4 win in the third set.
At No. 2, Walter beat Hartshorn, 6-1 and 6-0. Flores fell to Moses at No. 3, 6-0 and 6-1. Cassady Shough downed Haidar at No. 4, 6-2 and 6-1. McMahon blanked Mauk at No. 5, 6-0 and 6-0, while Eckels took down Vigue at No. 6, 6-0 and 6-0.
Marietta hosts John Carroll University on Saturday (April 15) at 1:00 p.m.
