MARIETTA, Ohio — John Carroll University defeated Marietta College in Ohio Athletic Conference women's tennis action by the score of 7-2 Saturday (April 15) afternoon. The Pioneers move to 2-10 overall and 1-5 in the OAC. John Carroll improves to 4-10 overall and 4-1 in the OAC.
Marietta picked up wins in the top doubles and singles matches.
Isabela Paixao (McKees Rocks, Pa./Montour) and
Ryah Haidar (Sylvania, Ohio/Sylvania Southview) topped Felicity Kolb and Mia Zivkovic, 8-6, at No. 1 doubles. Paixao took down Zivkovic at No. 1 singles, 6-4 and 6-4.
In the No. 2 doubles match, JCU's Caroline Chandler and Kaylyn Gimbel beat Abigail Hartshorn and
Parkar Mauk (Marion, Ohio/Marion Harding), 8-0.
India Flores (Waverly, W.Va./Williamstown) and
Elizabeth Vigue (Lancaster, Ohio/Fisher Catholic) fell to Emma Boreman and Peyton Crumpler, 8-4.
The Blue Streaks swept the bottom five singles matches. At No. 2, Kolb beat Hartshorn, 6-1 and 6-2. Flores lost to Gimbel at No. 3, 6-4 and 6-0.
At No. 4, Chandler defeated Haidar, 6-0 and 6-0. Crumpler topped Mauk at No. 5, 6-2 and 6-2, while Boreman defeated Vigue at No. 6, 6-1 and 6-0.
Marietta wraps up the season on Wednesday (April 19) when rival Muskingum University visits the Beren Tennis Center for a 4:30 p.m. match.
