ALLIANCE, Ohio — The Marietta College women's tennis team lost to the University of Mount Union, 6-3, Wednesday (April 5) afternoon. The Pioneers fall to 2-8 overall and 1-3 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Mount Union improves to 1-6 overall and 1-2 in the OAC.
The Purple Raiders swept all three doubles matches for an early 3-0 lead. At No. 1, Abby Franks and Amelia Francisco blanked Abigail Hartshorn and
Parkar Mauk (Marion, Ohio/Marion Harding), 8-0.
India Flores (Waverly, W.Va./Williamstown) and
Elizabeth Vigue (Lancaster, Ohio/Fisher Catholic) lost to Emma Thornton and Emily Peel at No. 2, 8-1. In the No. 3 match, Chloe Bancroft and Marissa Scobee defeated
Ryah Haidar (Sylvania, Ohio/Sylvania Southview) and
Brooke Smith (Cortland, Ohio/Maplewood), 8-2.
Marietta's three team points came in the bottom three singles matches. Mauk beat Bancroft at No. 4, 6-4 and 6-0. At No. 5, Vigue defeated Scobee, 6-2 and 6-3, while Smith won by default at No. 6.
In the No. 1 match, Franks took down Hartshorn, 6-1 and 6-1. At No. 2, Flores lost to Francisco, 6-4 and 6-0. Peel defeated Haidar in three sets at No. 3. Haidar toom the first set 6-3. Peel won the second, 6-4, and then took the third, 10-7.
Marietta plays at Otterbein University on Friday (April 7) at 3:30 p.m.
