ALLIANCE, Ohio — The University of Mount Union defeated Marietta College by the score of 6-3 Wednesday (April 5) afternoon in Ohio Athletic Conference men's tennis action. The Pioneers are now 3-9 overall and 0-4 in the OAC. Mount Union is 1-5 on the season and 1-1 in conference matches.
Marietta trailed 2-1 after doubles. Mount Union's No. 1 team of Ryan McClure and Colton Mace beat
Evan Barker (Washington, W.Va./Parkersburg South) and Elijah Kihl, 8-2. The Pioneers evened the match with a win from
Spencer Hall (Louisville, Ohio/Louisville) and
Elivh Perez (Mexico City, Mexico/Preparatoria Abierta) at No. 2, 8-3. In the No. 3 match, Holden Schmid and Adam McMillen downed
George Fazah (Beirut, Lebanon/Adma International School) and
David Frazier (Louisville, Ohio/Louisville), 8-0.
Kuhl and Hall picked up singles wins accounting for the Pioneers' other two team points. Kuhl topped Mace in three sets at No. 2 singles. Mace won the first set 6-2 and Kuhl came back to take the final two sets, 7-6 (7-2) and 6-3, for the win. Hall bested Tyler Cargould at No. 4, 6-2 and 6-4.
In the top singles match, McClure beat Perez, 6-2 and 6-0. At No. 3, Barker fell to Schmid, 7-5 and 6-2. Warner bested Frazier at No. 5, 6-0 and 6-0, while McMillen took down Fazah at No. 6, 6-0 and 6-1.
Marietta plays at Otterbein University on Friday (April 7) at 3:30 p.m.
