MEDINA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's tennis team picked up its first Ohio Athletic Conference win of the season with a 7-2 victory over Baldwin Wallace Saturday (April 1) afternoon. The Pioneers improve to 2-7 overall and 1-2 in the OAC. Baldwin Wallace falls to 1-10 on the season and 0-1 in the OAC.
The Pioneers grabbed a 2-1 lead after doubles.
Ryah Haidar (Sylvania, Ohio/Sylvania Southview) and
Isabela Paixao (McKees Rocks, Pa./Montour) defeated Gabriela Heideman and Kierstyn Yates at No. 1 doubles, 8-1. At No. 2, Abigail Hartshorn and
Parkar Mauk (Marion, Ohio/Marion Harding) fell to Emma Trost and Gillian Brown, 8-2.
India Flores (Waverly, W.Va./Williamstown) and
Elizabeth Vigue (Lancaster, Ohio/Fisher Catholic) topped Juliet Penrod and Nicole Babik, 8-3.
In the top singles match, Paixao beat Heideman, 6-1 and 6-1. Yates downed Hartshorn at No. 2, 6-0 and 6-1. At No. 3, Flores bested Trost, 6-4 and 6-1.
The Pioneers won the bottom three singles matches. At No. 4, Haidar beat Brown, 6-2 and 6-1, Mauk took down Penrod at No. 5, 6-1 and 6-2, while Vigue beat Babik at No. 6, 4-6, 6-3, 10-7.
Marietta plays at Mount Union on Wednesday (April 5) at 4:00 p.m.
