HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — The Marietta College men's tennis team lost to Gordon College by the score of 8-1 Thursday (March 9) morning. The loss drops the Pioneers to 3-3 on the season. Gordon improves to 5-2 overall.
Marietta's lone point came at No. 2 doubles where
Spencer Hall (Louisville, Ohio/Louisville) and
Elivh Perez (Mexico City, Mexico/Preparatoria Abierta) defeated Lucas Barnes and James Wellborn by the score of 8-3.
Gordon's Jeffrey Bodner and Carleton Riester beat
Evan Barker (Washington, W.Va./Parkersburg South) and
Elijah Kuhl (Marietta, Ohio/Wood County Christian (W.Va.)) at No. 1, 8-4, while John Marineau and Brendan Tuttle posted an 803 win at No. 3 over
Elliot Britton (High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire/John Hampden Grammar) and
George Fazah (Beirut, Lebanon/Adma International School).
Hall battled Marineau at No. 4 singles before falling in three sets, 6-3, 6-7 (3-7), 1-0 (10-8). Bodner beat Perez at No. 1, 6-0 and 6-0. Riester was a 6-2, 6-2 winner against Kuhl at No. 2, while Wellborn bested Barker at No. 3, 6-4 and 6-4.
In the bottom two singles matches, Barnes beat Britton, 6-2 and 6-1, and Tuttle defeated Fazah, 6-0 and 6-1.
Marietta returns home to host Salem University on Wednesday (March 15) at 2:30 p.m.
