HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — The Marietta College women's tennis team lost a 7-2 decision to Methodist University Wednesday (March 8) morning. The Pioneers fall to 0-3 on the season, while Methodist improves to 3-3 overall.
The Pioneers earned points at to top singles and doubles matches. In doubles,
Isabela Paixao (McKees Rocks, Pa./Montour) and
Ryah Haidar (Sylvania, Ohio/Sylvania Southview) downed Kamdyn Malko and Megan Kidd, 8-6. Paixao topped Toni Laney at No. 1 singles, 6-0 and 7-5.
Methodist took the other two doubles matches. At No. 2, Veva Willocks and Cailin Cifra defeated
Parkar Mauk (Marion, Ohio/Marion Harding) and Abigail Hartshorn, 8-0.
India Flores (Waverly, W.Va./Williamstown) and
Elizabeth Vigue (Lancaster, Ohio/Fisher Catholic) lost to Hannah Higgins and Milana Lewis at No. 3, 8-2.
The Monarchs posted straight-set wins in the bottom five singles matches. Kidd beat Flores at No. 2, 6-2 and 6-0, while Valeria Matute was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 3 over Haidar.
Balko downed Mauk at No. 4, 6-0 and 6-1. Sydney Bird bested Hartshorn at No. 5 by the scores of 6-3 and 6-0, while Vigue lost to Cameron Kennedy at Bo. 6, 6-0 and 6-4.
The Pioneers conclude play in Hilton Head on Thursday (March 9) with a 9:00 a.m. match against Gordon College.
