HILTON HEAD, S.C. — The Marietta College women's tennis team lost to Pfeiffer University by the score of 7-2 Sunday (March 5) afternoon. The Pioneers slip to 0-2 overall, while the Falcons improve to 7-0 on the season.
Pfeiffer jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with win in the bottom two doubles matches. Elithe Hudson and Riley Isley beat Abigail Hartshorn and
Parkar Mauk (Marion, Ohio/Marion Harding) at No. 2, 8-5. In the No. 3 match,
Drew Taylor (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) and
Elizabeth Vigue (Lancaster, Ohio/Fisher Catholic) lost to Delaney Geygan and Emily Moore, 8-6.
Marietta cut the lead in half with a win in the top doubles match.
Ryah Haidar (Sylvania, Ohio/Sylvania Southview) and
Isabela Paixao (McKees Rocks, Pa./Montour) edged Alison Sloop and Megan Rekieta, 8-7.
Paixao tied the match with a quick win at No. 1 singles. She blanked Rekieta, 6-0 and 6-0.
Pfeiffer won the remaining five singles matches for the victory. At No. 2, Hudson beat
India Flores (Waverly, W.Va./Williamstown), 6-3 and 6-2. Isley took down Haidar at No. 3, 6-1 and 6-2. Mauk fell to Sloop at No. 4, 6-0 and 6-1. At No. 5, Geygan topped Hartshorn, 3-6, 6-1 and 1-0 (10-5). Moore downed Vigue at No. 6, 6-0 and 6-1.
Marietta plays Methodist University on Wednesday (March 8) at 8:30 a.m.
