HILTON HEAD, S.C. — The Marietta College men's tennis team opened the 2023 spring season with a 9-0 loss to Pfeiffer University Sunday (March 5) afternoon. The Pioneers move to 2-2 overall. Pfeiffer is 3-2 on the season.
Pfeiffer swept doubles for an early 3-0 lead. Michael Haranczyk and Dylan Masters downed
Evan Barker (Washington, W.Va./Parkersburg South) and
Elijah Kuhl (Marietta, Ohio/Wood County Christian (W.Va.)) by the score of 8-7 at No. 1 doubles. In the No. 2 match, Aleix Garrido and Benedikt Pfeiffer beat
Spencer Hall (Louisville, Ohio/Louisville) and
Elivh Perez (Mexico City, Mexico/Preparatoria Abierta), 8-1.
Elliot Britton (High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire/John Hampden Grammar) and
George Fazah (Beirut, Lebanon/Adma International School) fell to Laurin Rauer and Andres Valdez-Arze at No. 3, 8-0.
The Falcons completes the sweep with six straight-set victories in singles. Master topped Perez at No. 1, 6-1 and 6-0. Kuhl lost to Pfeiffer at No. 2, 6-3 and 6-2. At No. 3, Haranczyk bested Barker, 6-1 and 6-0.
Hall dropped a 6-4, 6-1 decision to Valdez-Arze at No. 4. Stan took down Britton at No. 5, 6-1 and 6-2, while Mateo Sonaglia defeated Fazah at No. 6, 6-0 and 6-0.
Marietta plays Thomas College on Wednesday (March 8) at 12:00 p.m.
