MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision to visiting Ohio Wesleyan University Thursday (March 23) afternoon at the Beren Tennis Center. The Pioneers slip to 1-6 on the season, while the Battling Bishops improve to 8-2 overall.
Marietta's two points came from the top doubles and single positions. The No. 1 doubles team of
Ryah Haidar (Sylvania, Ohio/Sylvania Southview) and Isabela Paixo edged Shanzay Ali and Katie Lee by the score of 8-6. Paixao downed Lee at No. 1 singles, 6-4 and 6-3.
Ohio Wesleyan won the remaining matches. At No. 2 doubles, Kaitlyn Quinn and Emma Zajac posted an 8-3 win over Abigail Hartshorn and
Parkar Mauk (Marion, Ohio/Marion Harding).
India Flores (Waverly, W.Va./Williamstown) and
Elizabeth Vigue (Lancaster, Ohio/Fisher Catholic) fell to Riley Brokaw and Maisie Dugger, 8-6, at No. 3.
In singles play, Ali bested Hartshorn at No. 2, 6-0 and 6-0, Brokaw beat Mauk by the same score at No. 5. The No. 3 match between Quinn and Flores was won by Quinn, 6-2 and 6-0. At No. 4, Zajac topped Haidar, 6-1 and 6-2, and at No. 6, Ryleigh Tillman beat Vigue, 6-0 and 6-1.
Marietta plays at Ohio Northern University on Saturday (March 25) at 12:00 p.m.
