MARIETTA, Ohio — Ohio Wesleyan University defeated Marietta College by the score of 8-1 in men's tennis action Thursday (March 25) at the Beren Tennis Center. The loss drops Marietta to 3-5 on the season. Ohio Wesleyan improves to 5-3 overall.
The Battling Bishops swept the doubles matches for an early 3-0 lead. In the top spot, Jose Mancilla and Mark Siriwanichkul downed
Evan Barker (Washington, W.Va./Parkersburg South) and
Elijah Kuhl (Marietta, Ohio/Wood County Christian (W.Va.)), 8-1. Spender Hall and
Elivh Perez (Mexico City, Mexico/Preparatoria Abierta) lost to Kobe Francis and Rainer Holl at No. 2, 8-3. In the No. 3 position, Jeremy Dao and Elliot Spicer bested
George Fazah (Beirut, Lebanon/Adma International School) and
David Frazier (Louisville, Ohio/Louisville), 8-0.
Marietta's point came from Hall in the No. 4 singles match. Hall defeated Spicer, 6-4 and 7-6 (7-3) for the win.
Siriwanichkul downed Perez at No. 1, 6-2 and 6-1. At No. 2, Francis beat Kuhl, 7-6 (7-4) and 6-3. Barker lost the No. 3 match to Mancilla by the scores of 6-3 and 6-2. Holl took the No. 5 match from Frazier, 6-0 and 6-0, while Dao downed Fazah at No. 6 by the same score.
Marietta plays at Ohio Northern University on Saturday (March 25) at 12:00 p.m.
