Final Score: 2-0 Win

Tuesday, February 7th — Overwatch vs. Keiser University – Sarasota (NACE Week 1)
Map 1: Round 1 - (Control – Lijiang Tower – Control Center) The Pioneers Overwatch team would face off in their National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE) season opener against Keiser University – Sarasota. Marietta College's lineup for the map consisted of first-year Eric Schnegg (Clarington, Ohio/St. John Central) on Reinhardt, Jeffrey Dolby (Glenford, Ohio/Sheridan) on Cassidy, Austin Amash (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) on Sombra, Baili Matheny (Little Hocking, Ohio/Warren Local) on Ana, and captain Corey McFann (South Webster, Ohio/) on Lucio. Although the Pios were able to secure 36% of the first objective of the map, they would end up losing round one. (36% - 100%, Keiser Win)

Map 1: Round 2 - (Lijiang Tower – Control – Night Market) Although the Pioneers would swap some of their composition swapping their tank for Orisa and their DPS to Reaper/Soldier, they would be unable to find success on Night Market. (0% - 100%, Keiser Win)
Map 2: Offense - (Eichenwalde – Hybrid) Marietta College would have much better luck on Eichenwalde as they rolled out Eric Schnegg (Clarington, Ohio/St. John Central) on Orisa, Jeffrey Dolby (Glenford, Ohio/Sheridan) on Cassidy, Austin Amash (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) on Pharah, Baili Matheny (Little Hocking, Ohio/Warren Local) on Baptiste, and Corey McFann (South Webster, Ohio/) on Mercy. After capturing the payload with a total of 2:52 remaining, the Pioneers were able to push it through three consecutive checkpoints with their remaining time.

Defense - (Eichenwalde – Hybrid) Keiser University would come out equally strong on their attack phase, capturing the payload at 3:00. The too would be able to push the payload through all three checkpoints with extra remaining time. For the overtime phase, Keiser would have 1:43, while the Pioneers would only have 1:00. Unfortunately, the Pioneers were unable to defend against Keiser's attack and would ultimately lose the round and map. (3-4, Keiser Win)

Defense - (Route 66 – Escort) The Pioneers would be unable to successfully thwart the offensive measures taken by Keiser on their attack. This in turn would lead Keiser to push the cart a total of 70.38m, securing them the map and match victory. (0-1, Keiser Win)
Final Score: 0-3 Loss

Thursday, February 9th — Super Smash Bros. vs. Quinnipiac University (NACE Week 1)

Game 1: The Marietta College Super Smash Bros team would open their NACE season against the seasoned squad of Quinnipiac University this Thursday. NACE Super Smash Bros matches are different from our normal GLEC format, as they are 4v4 Crew Battles as opposed to 3v3. Marietta's opening player would be captain Mason Rice (Marietta, Ohio/Parkersburg South (W.Va.)) on his main, Joker, where we would face off against QU's Steve. Although Mason was able to secure a stock off them, he would fall, losing his three stock in the process. Next up would be sophomore Zac Lane (Stratford, N.J./Buena Regional) and his signature Little Mac facing off against Minecraft Steve once again. Zac would struggle to keep up, unable to keep himself in a safe position, he would ultimately lose all three stocks without taking one. The next attempt to thwart Minecraft Steve would be freshman Peyton Ellis and her choice of Corrin. Peyton would find some success in the venture, able to secure a single stock off her opponent, but would in turn lose three herself. It was then up to Kenzee McDonald (Zanesville, Ohio/Philo) and their selection of Min Min. Kenzee would be successful in eliminating the last remaining stock on Minecraft Steve, while only losing a single stock in the process. After that bout, they would face Toon Link, where they would ultimately be defeated, but not without taking a stock for themselves. (0-8, Quinnipiac Win)

Game 2: The Pioneers would decidedly switch up their starting composition in game two, sending out Peyton Engel (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central) as Corrin to fend off QU's choice of Lucas. Peyton would be unsuccessful in her efforts, losing three stocks whilst taking none. Up next would be captain Mason Rice (Marietta, Ohio/Parkersburg South (W.Va.)) as Joker against the Lucas, but again the Pioneers would be unsuccessful in defeating Quinnipiac's Lucas by only taking one stock while losing three in the process. Zac Lane (Stratford, N.J./Buena Regional) would be up next as Little Mac and again would struggle against QU's choice in fighter, losing all three of his stock while only taking a single one for himself. Finally, Kenzee McDonald (Zanesville, Ohio/Philo) would be in the anchor position as Min Min and square off against the titanic Lucas. Unfortunately, they too would fall without taking a single stock. (0-10, Quinnipiac Win)
Final Score: 0-2 Loss

Saturday, February 11th — Rocket League vs. Alma College (GLEC Week 3)

Game 1: Marietta College would struggle in game one of the series as Alma College took an early two goal lead in the first minute and a half. Captain Austin Offenberger (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) would even the playing field with a goal at 1:10 assisted by Alec Ellis (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington). Ellis would go on to score an unassisted goal at 0:35 to tie the game. Overtime would be initiated by the Pioneers, but Alma would strike fast, scoring the game winning goal in only eight seconds into overtime. (2-3, Alma Win)

Game 2: Again, Marietta would struggle in game two, only scoring a goal in the first minute at 3:56 thanks to Alec Ellis (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington) and assisted by Austin Offenberger (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta). Alma would go on to score goals at: 3:51, 3:23, 1:13, and 0:42. (1-4, Alma Win)

Game 3: With the series on the line from this point forward, the Pioneers would tighten up their defense as well as hone in on their attacking pressure. Game three would open with freshman Justin Shanklin (Massillon, Ohio/) scoring a goal at 4:43, assisted by Austin Offenberger (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta). Offenberger would go on to score a second unassisted goal for the Pioneers at 1:40 to extend the lead to two. Alma College would answer in kind with a goal of their own at 1:26. This however was not enough to beat the Pioneers in game three. (2-1, Marietta Win)

Game 4: The Pioneers began to heat up after game three, with Austin Offenberger (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) scoring a third unassisted goal in the series at 3:53. Alma would go on to tie the game with 34 seconds remaining. In an absolute nail-biter, Austin Offenberger (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) with the help of Alec Ellis (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington) would go on to score the game winning goal with only one second remaining on the game clock. The Pioneers were now in the driver's seat and were looking to secure the reverse sweep in game five. (2-1, Marietta Win)

Game 5: Game five would go down in MC Esports history as one of the most electric games in its Rocket League teams' tenure. Alec Ellis (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington) would start with a goal less than ten seconds into the game assisted by Austin Offenberger (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta). Alma would return fire in hand, scoring a goal less than 30 seconds later. Alec Ellis (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington) would again score with the help of Austin Offenberger (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) at 4:18. Alma again would tie the game at 2:52 with a goal of their own. The tides would shift rapidly in the last 35 seconds of the game, where Alma would go up one point at 0:34 with their own goal. Alec Ellis (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington) would be the saving grace to the cause, tying the game in Marietta's favor with only 14 seconds remaining on the game-clock. With the game and series on the line, the Pioneers made a last ditch effort to score in the remaining time. With zero seconds on the clock, the game would not end until the ball hit the ground. This would lead to the most influential play of the game being made by Justin Shanklin (Massillon, Ohio/) who was able to redirect a pass from Austin Offenberger (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) directly to Alec Ellis (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington) for the game and series winning goal with zero seconds remaining. This would the first win for the Rocket League team in the 2023 spring season. (4-3, Marietta Win)
Final Score: 3-2 Win

Saturday, February 11th — Rocket League vs. Baldwin Wallace University (GLEC Week 3)

Game 1: Marietta College would come out swinging against Baldwin Wallace in their second match of the day with Alec Ellis (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington) scoring an unassisted goal only two seconds into the game. He would go on to score another goal assisted by Austin Offenberger (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) within the first six seconds of the match putting the Pioneers up by two. BW would respond in kind at 2:28 with a goal of their own. Austin Offenberger (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) would extend the Pioneers lead with a goal assisted by Alec Ellis (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington) at 2:13 and would do the same again at 0:57. (4-1, Marietta Win)

Game 2: Baldwin Wallace would walk away with the win in this game as the Pioneers defense faltered allowing five goals to be scored. Marietta would only go on to score three goals in the second game. (3-5, BW Win)

Game 3: Baldwin Wallace would again go on to score the first goal of the game in the first five seconds of play in game three, but Austin Offenberger (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) would go on to tie the game with an assisted goal by Alec Ellis (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington) only ten seconds later. Offenberger would continue to dominate Baldwin Wallace's defense in game two scoring unassisted goals at 2:36 and 1:32. (3-1, Marietta Win)

Game 4: Marietta would start off game four strong with goals by Alec Ellis (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington) at 4:27, 3:05, and 1:56. However, Baldwin Wallace would answer in kind with 5 goals of their own at 2:08, 1:48, 1:20, 0:31, and +0:15. (4-5, BW Win)

Game 5: The Pioneers attempted to hold onto the lead in game five but appeared to be suffering from exhaustion after a total of nine rounds played on the day. Baldwin Wallace would walk away with three goals on the game with Marietta remaining scoreless in game five. (0-5, BW Win)
Final Score: 2-3 Loss

Saturday, February 11th — Overwatch vs. Bethel University (GLEC Week 3)

Map 1: Round 1 - (Lijiang Tower – Control – Gardens) The Pioneers Overwatch team would start their day at Lijiang Tower with a composition containing Eric Schnegg (Clarington, Ohio/St. John Central) on Reinhardt, captain Corey McFann (South Webster, Ohio/) on Cassidy, Jeffrey Dolby (Glenford, Ohio/Sheridan) on Reaper, Baili Matheny (Little Hocking, Ohio/Warren Local) on Kiriko, and Austin Amash (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) on Lucio. The Pioneers were unsuccessful in capturing control of the point for the first round and would lose round one to the Pilots. (0% - 100%, Bethel Win)

Map 1: Round 2 - (Lijiang Tower – Control – Night Market) Again the Pioneers would struggle to keep up with the vastly higher ranked Bethel University Pilots on Lijiang's Night Market. Unable to obtain control point pressure, the Pioneers would again lose the round and map. (0% - 100%, Bethel Win)

Map 2: Offense – (Eichenwalde – Hybrid) The Pioneers would attempt a compositional change in map two, replacing Eric Schnegg (Clarington, Ohio/St. John Central) on tank with Corey McFann (South Webster, Ohio/) and putting Austin Amash (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) on DPS. Their composition of Reinhardt, Soldier 76, Reaper, Kiriko, and Mercy were unable to punch through BU's defense resulting in 0% of the capture point being taken.

Defense – (Eichenwalde – Hybrid) Marietta College's attempt to stop Bethel's advance on their defense would prove futile as their composition was easily overran by Bethel's Wrecking Ball. Needing to capture the point only 33%, Bethel easily ran past the defense of Marietta and was able to secure the point in only two team fights. (0-1, Bethel Win)

Map 3: Offense - (Circuit Royal – Escort) Marietta would open on map three with Corey McFann (South Webster, Ohio/) on Reinhardt/Winston, Jeffrey Dolby (Glenford, Ohio/Sheridan) on Cassidy, Austin Amash (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) on Widowmaker/Tracer, Eric Schnegg (Clarington, Ohio/St. John Central) on Mercy, and Baili Matheny (Little Hocking, Ohio/Warren Local) on Baptiste. Having been able to secure the first checkpoint of the map, the Pioneers would go on to push the payload a total of 40.71m into the second checkpoint.

Defense - (Circuit Royal – Escort) With their win condition in mind, the Pioneers set up an early defense on map three's initial choke-point with their composition of Corey McFann (South Webster, Ohio/) on Ramattra, Jeffrey Dolby (Glenford, Ohio/Sheridan) on Hanzo, Austin Amash (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) on Cassidy, Baili Matheny (Little Hocking, Ohio/Warren Local) on Baptiste, and Eric Schnegg (Clarington, Ohio/St. John Central) on Mercy. However, a strong team fight in the favor of the BU Pilots made for a quick first checkpoint capture where they were then able to continue to push the required 40.72m. (1-2, Bethel Win)
Final Score: 0-3 Loss

By then, mid-laner Alec Wang (Cincinnati, Ohio/) began to snowball as his champion out leveled Simpson's mid-laner by two levels at 17:00. Marietta College maintained nearly a 16k gold lead on Simpson by the end of game one. The Pioneers would be victorious in game one where at 26:06 they destroyed Simpson's nexus with an ending score of 20-6 in kills. Jungler Tyler Salanitro (Hope Mills, N.C./Grays Creek) and Support Bethany Holstein (Little Hocking, Ohio/Warren Local) would end the game with 10 and 9 assists respectively.

Game 2: Riding the energy from a game one victory, the Pioneers started the draft phase of game two by banning the same champions they did in the previous game (Pantheon, Graves, Caitlin, Sylas, and Maokai). Marietta College's game two composition had some slight changes with top-laner Bryce Heitman (Fleming, Ohio/Warren Local) choosing Zac and mid-laner Alec Wang (Cincinnati, Ohio/) selecting Irelia. The remaining MC composition would consist of captain Bethany Holstein (Little Hocking, Ohio/Warren Local) on Ashe, Tyler Salanitro (Hope Mills, N.C./Grays Creek) in jungle as Jarvan IV, and ADC Stef Saunders (Belpre, Ohio/Waterford) as Seraphine. Alec Wang's (Cincinnati, Ohio/) Irelia would score an ace at 24:51 signaling the end for Simpson College, as the Pioneers were able to secure the nexus at 28:45 after taking Baron. At the end of the game, Marietta College would have three times the kills as Simpson with a score of 30-10. This marks the first victory for the League of Legends team since the arrival of Head Coach Derek Games in November of 2021. The team would like to extend thanks to their coach, Jesse 'Glitch' Edman, for all the work that he has been putting in over the past several weeks.
