MARIETTA, Ohio — The Pioneers were pleasantly surprised this past weekend when one student-athlete was selected for a post-season tournament.
Colton Wetzel (Shadyside, Ohio/), the Fortnite team captain has been formally invited to compete in the National Association of Collegiate Esports' (NACE) Fortnite Campus Corner Fall 2023 Invitational.
The tournament will be held on Saturday (Nov. 18) at 6:00 p.m. Wetzel is among eight of the top Fortnite players in NACE who all received an invitation to the tournament. Athletes from schools around the nation such as California State University - Long Beach and the University of Nevada - Reno have all been invited to participate.
The eight selected athletes will be playing in two sets of three rounds of 'Rival Gun Game' for a chance at a $1,000 prize pool. The player who has the most eliminations after six rounds of play will be granted first place and take home $500. Second place will receive $250 with third and fourth place receiving $125 each.
