MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College men's soccer team posted a dominating 3-0 win over visiting Washington and Jefferson College Wednesday (Sept . 7) evening. The Pioneers improve to 1-0-2 on the season, while the Presidents fall to 1-2-0 overall.
"This was a significantly better performance for us after what I thought were mediocre results in our first two games," Marietta head coach
Joe Bergin said. "This is the Marietta I expected when we started the season. We are certainly happy but not satisfied."
Marietta scored twice early in the match and then added an insurance goal in the second half.
Elliot Britton (High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire/John Hampden Grammar) tallied the game winner in the ninth minute off an assist from
Connor Kennedy (Nottingham, United Kingdom/Bluecoat Academy). An own goal four minutes later made it 2-0 in favor of the Pioneers.
Jovonni Auddino (Columbus, Ohio/Westerville North) extended the Marietta to three goals with an assist from
Jacob Roberto (Berea, Ohio/Berea-Midpark) in the 62nd minute.
The Pioneers totally dominated the match possessing the ball in the President's defensive end of the pitch for most of the 90-minute match. Marietta took 20 shots, including 10 on goal, while W&J was held to three shots and just one on goal.
Luke Price (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) recorded his second straight shutout in goal with one save. Charles Boldosser went the distance in net for the Presidents recording eight saves.
Marietta hosts Bethany on Saturday (Sept. 10) at 4 p.m.
