MARIETTA, Ohio — Marietta College and Bethany College played to a scoreless draw Saturday (Sept. 10) evening in nonconference men's soccer action. The Pioneers move to 1-0-3 on the season, while Bethany is now 3-1-1 overall.
"This was a good Bethany team, and it was a battle from start to finish. I loved our defensive effort, no issues there whatsoever. But on the offensive end we need to be more clinical around the goal," Marietta head coach
Joe Bergin Said. "I'm disappointed with our finishing. It isn't like we didn't have chances; we did. But we couldn't put them away. Thus, we pick up another draw."
Both teams had good scoring opportunities in the match with each side awarded a pair of free kicks from just outside the 18-yard box. However, both keepers rose to the challenge and posted a clean sheet.
Luke Price (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) went the distance in goal for the Pioneers and recorded four saves. Bethany's Adis Salihovic posted four saves in net for the Bison.
Price was aided by a solid Pioneer back line that included
Connor Kennedy (Nottingham, United Kingdom/Bluecoat Academy),
Sean Fournier (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta),
Gavin Chappel (Oakdale, Pa./West Allegheny) and
Sam Holthaus (Bedford, Ohio/University).
Marietta hits the road for three straight matches. The Pioneers travel to Steubenville on Wednesday (Sept. 14) for a 7 p.m. match at Franciscan University.
